RSIL conducted a three-day legal workshop for the international community based in Pakistan from the 18th to 20th October at Serena Hotel. The purpose of this workshop was to provide diplomatic and expatriate staff working in Pakistan with a comprehensive introduction to the institutions, governance structure and legal system of Pakistan. The course provided training on the legal framework relating to diplomats, consular officials and INGO’s in Pakistan. Participants were also introduced to the legal underpinnings of some of the major contemporary challenges facing Pakistan including counter-terrorism and counter-militancy operations, enforcement of human rights, law relating to non-state actors and proscribed organizations, legal aspects of Pak-India relations etc.
Our objective through this initiative was to add value to the work of the diplomatic missions and international organizations in Pakistan by helping them better understand the milieu within which Pakistan frames its domestic responses and to make discourse on these issues as accessible as possible. In light of the feedback received at the end of the training, we hope to conduct similar events in the future.
