On the 12th of January 2019, President RSIL Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi and the RSIL team welcomed a delegation from Wolfson College, Oxford at the Lahore office to discuss the creation of an endowment allowing Pakistani students to pursue a Master’s degree in international law at Oxford; as well as the future creation of a Pakistan Studies Center at Oxford. The delegation consisted of Sir Tim Hitchens, President of Wolfson College, Mr. Matthew McCartney, Associate Professor and Director of the Contemporary South Asian Studies Program, Mr. William Conner, Fellow and Development Director, Wolfson College and Ms. Rachel Kirwan, Head of Development Social Sciences Division. In attendance were prominent members of the business community such as Mr. Shafaq Ahmed (Barqah Bank), Mr. Waseem Butt (JS Group), Mr. Waseem Rehman (Samsung Group) and Brig. Mazhar (ISPR). Amongst them, Mr. Ali Sultan, Ms. Maliha Khushnood and Mr. Usman Khan were also present. The event was a venture to promote legal international education that may provide promising young law graduates the opportunity to pursue higher education at Oxford; and to emphasize the importance of research pertaining to Pakistan independently within and outside the context of the South Asian Studies.
